Even with the buggered up bolt holes I am still happy because the key is indeed sheared. So the flywheel was out of time. I probably wont have to do a rebuild after all.

The outside threads of the puller thread into the flywheel and the puller bolt threads into the puller. The bolt presses against the top of the crankshaft which forces the flywheel off.
